Use this page for your WooCommerce cost model, then compare the same product against Shopify's plan and payment economics.
Compare with Shopify →The calculator above models WooCommerce profit as more than selling price minus product cost. Enter product cost, shipping or fulfillment, advertising cost, payment-processing percentage and fixed transaction charge, expected returns and recurring store expenses such as hosting, extensions and maintenance. Monthly overhead is allocated across order volume so you can compare contribution profit with fully loaded profit. The sticky summary keeps net profit per order, net margin, ROI, break-even advertising cost and monthly results visible as assumptions change.
WooCommerce does not have the same universal marketplace referral fee structure as Amazon or eBay. The important costs are the ones in your own stack: payment gateway, hosting, paid extensions, development, fraud tools, shipping and acquisition. That makes editable inputs more useful than a single fixed “WooCommerce fee.”
Fixed monthly costs behave differently from transaction fees. A $90 monthly stack costs $0.90 per order at 100 orders but only $0.30 per order at 300 orders. Percentage processing costs do not fall in the same way because they rise with transaction value.
Assume a $60 order, $20 product cost, $6 fulfillment, $10 advertising, $2 other order cost and $90 of monthly hosting, extensions and maintenance spread across 300 orders. The allocated monthly overhead is $0.30 per order. Using the U.S. WooPayments card reference of 2.9% + $0.30, processing is $2.04. Modeled profit is $19.66, or about a 32.8% margin. Before advertising, the order has $29.66 available for acquisition cost, corresponding to a break-even ROAS of about 2.02×.
| Payment route | U.S. online reference | Fee on $60 |
|---|---|---|
| WooPayments cards | 2.9% + $0.30 | $2.04 |
| Stripe domestic cards | 2.9% + $0.30 | $2.04 |
| PayPal standard card payments | 2.99% + $0.49 fixed USD fee | About $2.28 |
| Square Free online | 3.3% + $0.30 | $2.28 |
These are reference rates, not a universal processor ranking. International cards, currency conversion, alternative payment methods, disputes and negotiated pricing can change the effective cost. Enter the rates shown in your own account before making a platform decision.
WooCommerce itself is open-source ecommerce software rather than a marketplace referral-fee model. Merchants still need to model payment processing, hosting, extensions, maintenance and fulfillment.
For fully loaded profit, divide recurring monthly store costs by expected monthly orders. Keep them separate if you want to view contribution profit before fixed overhead.
Yes. Use the preset as a starting point and replace the percentage and fixed fee with the pricing for your country, payment method and account.
Higher order volume spreads fixed hosting, plugin and maintenance costs across more orders, while percentage payment fees continue to scale with revenue.
